Exposure

Exposure is an adaptation of Thomas Hardy's little-known novel "The Pursuit of the Well-Beloved" with music by Daniel Felsenfeld and libretto by theatrical provocateur Bea Goodwin. The new opera highlights the complex nature of consent and examines the power dynamic that is sometimes taken advantage of in mentor-mentee relationships, exposing abuses of power and facilitating discussion in the lineage of #metoo.

Exposure features knock-out vocal performances by New York City-based sopranos Elyse Anne Kakacek and Sara Lin Yoder with instrumental performances by Boston-based contemporary duo Transient Canvas (Amy Advocat and Matt Sharrock). Nancy Manocherian’s The Cell Theatre premiered a live stream audio recording of the opera on November 20, 2020.

Frisson Films is currently developing a film adaptation of the opera.
